CITN, and the route into international tax
Here is the full picture for the Nigerian tax community. What CITN is, where the international opportunities are, how the international papers work, and how to take the next step beyond the domestic market.
What it is
The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria is the body that regulates and certifies tax professionals in Nigeria. It gives you a strong grounding in Nigerian tax law and practice, and it is the standard route to practising tax in the country.
The opportunities it opens
Nigerian tax professionals increasingly work on cross-border matters, from treaties and transfer pricing to the global minimum tax. Adding an internationally recognised qualification opens work with multinationals, advisory firms and clients well beyond Nigeria, and it makes your CITN foundation travel.
How to add international papers
The usual next step is the CIOT's ADIT, the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation. ADIT has no entry requirements, it is recognised worldwide, and it sits comfortably alongside a CITN background. You start with the Principles of International Taxation module and build from there around the areas most relevant to your work.

How to study for it
Map your CITN papers first, then look at where the syllabus overlaps with international tax so you are not learning the same ground twice. When you are ready to add an international qualification, ADIT's Principles of International Taxation module is the usual starting point, and a structured plan keeps it manageable alongside work.
